| Term                              | Meaning                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              |
| --------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Claim** | An attestation, signed by a verifier listed in `TrustedVerifiers`, that sits on an identity and carries a topic, a value and an expiry. More in [Verified holders](/fundamentals/verified-holders.md). |
| **Claim topic**                   | What a claim asserts, which is one of `EMPLOYEE_OF`, `IDENTITY_VERIFIED`, `INVESTOR_ELIGIBLE`, `REGION`, `SCREENED` or `VENUE`.                                                                                                                      |
| **Clearing price** | The one price applied to all matched orders when a Liquidity Window settles, later published as a Reference Valuation under the source `WINDOW_CLEARING`. |
| **Company**                       | Selcier's word for an onboarded issuer. Its identifiers are a `companyId` (`bytes32`) on-chain and a `cmp_` id in the API.                                                                                                                           |
| **Console** | Where companies work: a web app for configuring Liquidity Windows, corporate actions, offerings, rules and share classes. More in [Console for issuers](/the-platform/issuer-console.md). |
| **Delivery versus payment (DvP)** | A settlement method where stablecoins and tokens either change hands together in one transaction or stay put. All Selcier trades use it. More in [How trades settle](/markets-and-capital/how-trades-settle.md). |
| **`DisclosureRegistry`**          | Anchors each document's hash on-chain, alongside a kind, a URI and a timestamp.                                                                                                                                                                      |
| **Distribution** | Money paid out to holders through the `DistributionVault`, for example a dividend or the proceeds of an acquisition. |
| **`DistributionVault`** | Holders claim their pro-rata part of a distribution from this contract, based on balances captured at a record block. |
| **EIP-712** | A way of signing typed, structured data on Ethereum, standardized under this number. Within Selcier, signatures use a domain named `Selcier`, at version `1`. |
| **Embedded wallet** | Wallet that Portfolio sets up for an investor or employee at onboarding, automatically tied to that person's identity. |
| **ERC-3643** | Standard for permissioned tokens: identity and transfer rules are checked ahead of settlement, and ERC-20 compatibility is retained. |
| **ERC-8056** | Known as the Scaled UI Amount Extension, this standard adds `uiMultiplier()`, letting a corporate action alter the shares per token with no rebase of balances. |
| **Explorer** | Public window onto all tokenized companies on Selcier, found at explorer.selcier.xyz. More in [The public Explorer](/the-platform/public-explorer.md). |
| **Holder** | Wallet with a registered identity that either holds a share token or is eligible to. The API labels it with an `hld_` id. |
| **Holder cap** | Upper limit, enforced by `HolderCapModule`, on how many distinct identities can hold a share class. |
| **Holding period** | Enforced by `HoldingPeriodModule`, this lockup starts for each lot when that lot is acquired. |
| **Identity** | On-chain contract standing for one person or entity. It holds claims, links to one or more wallets, and stores no personal data. |
| **`IdentityRegistry`** | Exists once per company. It links wallets to identities and reports whether each has valid claims. |
| **Issuer-sponsored token** | The issuer here is the same company the token's shares belong to. All Selcier tokens work this way. |
| **`IssuerTimelock`** | Multi-sig with a time delay, on which the company signs, that sensitive configuration changes must go through. |
| **Liquidity Window** | Auction or tender run by a company for a fixed period, where eligible buyers and sellers trade at one clearing price. More in [Scheduled Liquidity Windows](/markets-and-capital/scheduled-windows.md). |
| **`LiquidityWindow`** | Contract behind Liquidity Windows. It locks orders, and settles them atomically on `clear`. |
| **Lot** | Tokens obtained in a single event, tracked with their own source and acquisition time. Transfers use up lots on a first in, first out basis. |
| **Module** | Contract attached to a `RuleEngine` to enforce a single transfer rule. `RegionModule` and `ROFRModule` are two examples. |
| **Multiplier** | Output of `uiMultiplier()`: shares represented per token, scaled by `1e18`. |
| **`OfferingVault`** | Contract for primary offerings. It holds subscriptions in escrow, then either mints shares at close or refunds investors. |
| **`OPERATOR`** | Selcier's relayers hold this role. With it they co-sign recoveries and submit sponsored transactions, but on its own the role can never move holder tokens. |
| **`PAUSER`** | Role shared by the company and the registrar, allowing an immediate pause or unpause of a share token. |
| **Permissioned pool** | Robinhood Chain AMM pool in which `PoolGate` tests swaps and liquidity changes against the share token's rules. |
| **`PoolGate`** | Applies `canTransfer` to permissioned pools by acting as their hook contract. |
| **Portfolio** | The investor and employee side of Selcier: a web app for onboarding, holding, trading, voting and reading company documents. More in [Portfolio for holders](/the-platform/holder-portfolio.md). |
| **Reason code** | `bytes32` string from `canTransfer` stating why a transfer would fail, `HOLDING_PERIOD_ACTIVE` for instance. More in [Transfer outcome codes](/build-on-selcier/transfer-outcomes.md). |
| **Record block** | A distribution's balance snapshot is taken at this block. |
| **Recovery** | After a holder loses a wallet and re-verifies, this process shifts their tokens to a replacement wallet. It takes two-of-three approval and a timelock. |
| **Reference Valuation** | A per-share price with a date and a source attached, published for a share class. The source is one of `PRICED_ROUND`, `INDEPENDENT_VALUATION` or `WINDOW_CLEARING`. More in [How a valuation gets on-chain](/fundamentals/valuation-publishing.md). |
| **`REGISTRAR`** | Role of the registrar, used to mint and burn in line with cap table records, execute conversions and approve recoveries. |
| **Registrar** | Whoever keeps a company's authoritative cap table: the company, or an administrator appointed by it. |
| **RFQ** | Stands for request for quote. Two parties trade directly: one (the maker) signs a quote, and the other (the taker) fills it via `RFQSettlement`. More in [Quote-based trading](/markets-and-capital/quote-based-trading.md). |
| **`RFQSettlement`** | Settles a trade atomically once it has verified the signed quote and run transfer checks. |
| **ROFR** | Right of first refusal, held by the company and enforced by `ROFRModule`. Before shares go to anyone else, the company may buy them. |
| **`RuleEngine`** | Contract, one per share class, that calls each enabled module whenever tokens move. |
| **`SelcierFactory`** | Single root contract that deploys the complete set of contracts for a company and emits `CompanyDeployed`. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.selcier.xyz/start-here/terminology.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
